This is actually rather intuitive. Think about your interactions on the road in terms of conflicts. Freeways are designed to minimize conflicts. This is accomplished with medians, dividers, no at-grade intersections, no driveways or perpendicular entrances, no sharp vertical or horizontal curves, etc. The Hurt study and MAIDS both put about 75% of mc accidents at intersections with either oncoming or crossing vehicles. Ain't none of those on the interstate. Even so, i abhor interstates ... unless i just have to get from point A to point B, now. Wear a light colored helmet (I've worn white full-faced helmets for well over 30 years). A dark helmet is much less visible and is much hotter in the summer. Wear brightly colored jacket or, if it's too hot for a jacket, then at least wear a brightly colored long sleeve shirt. BE careful with this advice. Extensive research has shown repeatedly that 'contrast' is the key to conspicuity. That 'brightly colored jacket ... shirt' is conspicuous against a plain dull background, like you typically have when riding through the country, but in suburban and urban traffic we are often surrounded by 'brightly colored' objects, put yourself in the driver's seat in a cage making a left hand turn and have the background, through which a mc is approaching, be a bright orange sign or wall or building ... what happens? ... no contrast - orange on orange - the mcs orange safety vest has just been neutralized. Now, you can try to analyze in real time your contrast level relative to every cager in front of you, or you can ride as if you are invisible, and able to avoid every conflict in front of you that is presenting accident potential. Having a chip on your shoulder about drivers who just did 'not see the motorcycle' is not going to make your bones heal any faster, you must avoid the accident. This is not a disagreement with the ideas presented. They are good thoughts. These comments just add some attitude Who is ultimately responsible for your bones.....? YOU ARE!!! |
From Harrodsburg take 390 north west until it intersects with 53. Take a left on to Hwy 53. which will take you to Willisburg KY.
Here is where you want to stop at the Willisburg General Store. Now you can either double back to Harrodsburg the same way you got to there or you can instead take a new way back by taking 433 southeast to Mackville. From Mackville take Hwy 152 east back to Harrodsburg.
